Where's the Flash?
You won't find any Flash on this site. Imagine going shopping and finding two shops next door to each other. One shop has a big video screen stuck on the front door and you are forced to wait for what seems forever for the video to load― and then wait some more to watch the 30-second animation before you are allowed to enter. The other shop has a completely open entrance with a clear layout plan of the store and all the goods inside. This second store is listed on all the maps and in the phone book. The one with the animation isn't. While you may be tempted to stand and watch the pretty animation once or twice in order to get in the first shop, it will soon become tedious. You will then appreciate how easy it is to walk right into the second shop and know they have what you want to buy. The same rules apply to business web sites. Search engines are like the phone book and street map. Search engines require content to decide where to rank a web site. Flash does not provide that content. Humans can read the words that appear in a Flash animation, but search engines cannot. The very first requirement for a good web site is search engine performance. The prettiest web site isn't of much use if it's outside the top 10 or 20 results. Therefore we do not recommend Flash if you are trying to make sales with your site, unless you use it in small quantities and only for "effect" embedded in standard HTML pages. |
